The Full Story
I’m Magnolia (she/her). I have a million nicknames, and if you can come up with one I've never heard before I'll be impressed! I’m an award winning musician and a published poet, I'm queer, I'm a self-proclaimed skincare connoisseur, dog lover, tattoo enthusiast (I have over 50!), incorrigible sweet tooth, and I strongly believe that ALL tea should have milk in it. Yes, even herbal tea.
I’m a hippy farm kid at heart. I grew up in a small town called Kaslo in the West Kootenay region of BC, but I’ve been enjoying city life in Calgary Alberta since 2018. In August 2023 my partner and I got married, and I started my doula training basically as soon as we left the altar.

Another piece of my story is that I'm a recovered alcoholic/addict. I've been sober since 2018 and recovery is a huge part of my world. Addiction affects all kinds of families and people from all walks of life, so my hope is that by sharing my story I can help normalize sobriety, and de-stigmatize people with addiction recovering openly. I have been honoured to support individuals and families both in recovery and touched by addiction, and I feel that this is a special part of my calling as a doula.

My Why
I stumbled into the doula world when I was training to be a Montessori teacher, and it struck my soul like lightning. One of my favourite quotes from Dr. Maria Montessori says: “peace is what every human being is craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child.”
My dream is a world where children are respected, nurtured, and given the support they need to thrive. But in order to create that world, we need a radical culture shift in the way we respect, nurture, and support thriving life for parents.
I believe it when they say, "it takes a village". But more often than not it seems, the village just isn’t there.

Doula care makes me feel like I’m re-villaging my community in a way that really matters, in a way that is inherently protective to the wholeness of the families I get to support, and to be able to do that is an honour and a privilege that never ceases to humble me.
My doula philosophy is that every person or family knows intuitively what is best/right for them, and that by supporting informed and conscious choice, honouring each person's autonomy, and holding space for the nuance of it all with as much love and curiosity as possible, unexpected moments of empowerment and magic can unfold, no matter how you conceive, birth, or transition into parenthood. I've come to believe that my vocation is just to love and serve people, as honestly and fully as I can, during life's most tender transitions and transformations.

It's pretty fucking awesome :)

I don’t have kiddos of my own yet (hopefully someday soon if my husband and I are lucky), but for now I enjoy devoting my time to doulaing, nerding out about placentas, making music with my band, and soaking up as much time as I can with my loved ones.

Who My People Are
I work best with people who want to approach their reproductive journey with intention, curiosity, openness, presence, and at least a little bit of reverence for the science/magic of it all. My care feels most natural when there is mutual respect, transparent communication, and a readiness to lean into the healing container we create together. The seasons I share with clients are inherently personal, sacred, and human — and I’ve learned that trust tends to come naturally when we’re both willing to be real with each other. I show up as I am, to support and exalt you as you are — that’s always my intention. Support starts with feeling seen, known, and truly at ease around the people you welcome into your world. I’m a big believer in the right fit, so if I’m not the doula who aligns best with your family, that’s totally okay. But if you think I might be, I'd love to hear from you and hopefully get to know each other better!
